Happy Holidays! Dee and I are hoping you are all well and enjoying this time of year.
Washington State Good Sams will be continuing as an organization in 2023 and beyond. We hope you all will continue as members of our State. If your chapter is thinking about disbanding, we hope you will continue at least until after our next State Rally and meeting in Lynden in May.
If you haven’t already, please send in your $10 per rig membership dues for 2023. It helps pay for the publication of the Happy Wheels and also helps with the cost of entertainment at our State Rallies and other miscellaneous things. If you send it before January send it to our Secretary, Ron Kelley, PO Box 956, Deer Park, WA 99006. If you send it in 2023 send it to our upcoming Secretary, Mary Grinnell, 17500 SE 46 Street, Bellevue, WA.
The State Rallies this year are lowered to $35 a night and are one day longer with activities starting on Wednesday. If you want to come earlier you can register to come on Monday or Tuesday. The dates are:
May 3-7 - Lynden at the NW WA Fairgrounds
September 13-17 – Cashmere at the Chelan County Fairgrounds
For Lynden we already have our entertainment lined up. On Thursday night we have “The Rewinders” which is a trio playing their instruments and harmonizing together. We had them at Lynden last year and everyone really enjoyed them. Friday night we will be playing a special game Dee and I watched at the Oregon Rally last year. Saturday night we will have “Double Trouble” again. Mark and Steve entertained us for many years in the past and was a favorite to many members. They are now a 3 some, with an added sax player along with the guitar and keyboard.
At Lynden we are planning and hoping on having a catered dinner one night, free to our members, as a thank you from our State Organization.
For Cashmere we have lined up “Heidi and Diane” one night who everyone knows and “Daybreak Canyon Bluegrass”, the family band we had last year that everyone loved.
If you have never attended a WA State Rally or if it has been a while since you have, we hope that you will come and I believe that you will come back to other rallies. We will soon have the program agenda and we will then send it on to you and post it on our website.
Our Bylaws Committee, Jim, Roy, and John, have already met several times and are almost done. When complete, the proposed bylaws will be sent out to all members and then be voted on at our next State meeting in May at Lynden. They have put a lot of thought, time, and work in producing the new bylaws for our State Organization. We are so thankful for all the work they have done. Once they are approved by Chapter presidents, we will then make a few corrections to the “Certificate of Incorporation” which was established in 1986 with the WA Secretary of State for our WA State Good Sams Club organization.
We have worked closely with National Good Sam about the “Branding Guidelines” they are asking the Chapters to sign. I have signed them for the State so that the State Team can continue to wear our green vests and name tags with their brand on them. We re leaving the decision up to each individual Chapter of what you wish to do. Whether you choose to sign the “Branding Guidelines” or not you are still welcome as a Chapter and WA State members and will continue receiving the “Happy Wheels” and are welcome at State Rallies. There is no reason for your Chapter to disband just because you were asked to sign the “Branding Guidelines”. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let us know. This is up to your Chapter, but I really don’t think it is a “big deal”.
If your Chapter has chosen to disband, individual members are still welcome to continue being a member with WA State Good Sams. You can join another Chapter or become an “At-Large” member by paying membership dues. Quite a few members belong to more than one chapter.
I am very excited for our State Organization as we will be working on our own without National Good Sam Directors program support. We will continue with doing everything we have done in the past and more.
Have a happy and healthy winter! Stay safe.
